The Workshop at Downey City Library will be hosting an exhibition this Fall showcasing artwork made by YOU, our community members, either in the Workshop, or inspired by your time here.

The call for submissions opens on Monday, July 8th, and will close on Saturday, September 14th.

Requirements for submitting artwork:

  • submitted pieces must have been made during a Workshop program, or

  • submitted pieces can be made outside of a Workshop program if it is in some way inspired by the artist’s prior participation in a Workshop program

  • artist must be 15 years or older

Along with submitting the actual work created in a program, alternative examples of appropriate pieces can include, but are not limited to: an illustration or comic about attending the crochet class, a sculpture inspired by artwork made in the linocut printmaking class, or a painting of a plant that was grown in the sustainable gardening workshop. A piece’s qualification for being displayed is open ended, as long as it, either directly or conceptually, ties back to a Workshop experience. All submissions should be original work created by the submitting artist.

Any artistic medium is eligible, including graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking methods, fiber arts, sculpture, digital software, among others.

Please note that the submission of artwork does not guarantee acceptance into the exhibition.

If you are interested in submitting, but you have not attended a Workshop program, please refer to our calendar to view the many programs slated to take place before the submission deadline!

If you have any questions pertaining to the exhibition and submission process, please reach out to the Workshop staff at workshop@downeyca.org.
