Happy Lunar New Year
Celebrate Lunar New Year at the library with fun, self-paced activities for kids! Pick up festive coloring pages and an "I Spy" activity sheet, then share your completed work with our Children's Librarian to earn a certificate and a small prize provided by Panda Express (while supplies last).
Infant Massage Class
Join Ms. Coco Pacheco, our Children’s Librarian, at the Library for our special infant massage program! Studies have shown that infant massages help support the health and well-being of babies and parents, as well as stimulate all the senses of both the baby and parents to promote bonding.
This 5 week program will help parents learn massaging techniques they can incorporate into their daily routines. Parent’s will learn and build on different strokes and pressure methods for their baby, gain insights into their baby’s body language, and will provide parents an opportunity to discuss relevant parent topics, ask questions, share experiences and get support from others.
Registration will open 2 weeks prior to start of the program
Once slots are filled, registration will be closed. Please fill out the waitlist if you would like to be alerted of an opening.

CSULB STEM Tinkering Club (3rd-5th Grade)
Join us Saturday mornings this Spring in the Workshop for more sessions of the STEM Tinkering Club, hosted by educators from CSULB. Each session, we’ll explore science and engineering ideas through making: a fun hands-on process of designing, building, testing, rebuilding, and re-testing to create something new!
Students in grades 3rd-5th meet the first Saturday of the month, while students in 6th-8th meet on the second Saturday of the month.
This session is for students who will be in grades 3rd-5th.

Adult Chess Club
Calling all chess enthusiasts! Every other Saturday, the Downey City Library will host the Adult Chess Club, led by local chess enthusiast Salman Mogaddedi! Downey Chess Club
New dates and time in the New Year for Chess Club for Kids! Downey Chess Club instructors will be teaching chess in the Cormack Room, Mondays 6:15-7:30pm once a month. In addition to being a fun game, chess teaches students to become leaders by improving concentration, good sportsmanship, critical & abstract thinking, problem solving, planning, and analysis.

On The Grow: Vroom & Zoom
Need a way to get your child on board the cooperation train? Then join Downey City Library in the next brand new On the Grow class: Vroom and Zoom! The theme of transportation becomes the "vehicle" for learning cooperation through fun signs, songs, stories, and activities.
Ideal for ages 2 to 5
No registration is required but arrive early as space is limited
Coding & Robotics Club
Join us at the library every month for the Coding and Robotics Club! In each session, you'll learn some basic programming using a block-based coding language, and then try out what you've learned with Microbits—small computer boards that can do all sorts of cool tasks. Each session will build on the last one, and by the end of the program, we'll be programming the Microbits to work like little robots.

Infant Massage Class
Join Ms. Coco Pacheco, our Children’s Librarian, at the Library for our special infant massage program! Studies have shown that infant massages help support the health and well-being of babies and parents, as well as stimulate all the senses of both the baby and parents to promote bonding.
This 5 week program will help parents learn massaging techniques they can incorporate into their daily routines. Parent’s will learn and build on different strokes and pressure methods for their baby, gain insights into their baby’s body language, and will provide parents an opportunity to discuss relevant parent topics, ask questions, share experiences and get support from others.
Registration will open 2 weeks prior to start of the program
Once slots are filled, registration will be closed. Please fill out the waitlist if you would like to be alerted of an opening.

Super Smash Bros Winter Tournament (18+)
Ready to smash? Join us for our first-ever Adult Super Smash Bros Winter Tournament, open to gamers ages 18 and up. Compete in a thrilling bracket-style competition for a chance to win prizes and glory! Spaces are limited, so be sure to sign up early. Spectators are encouraged to bring the hype and cheer for their favorite players. Snacks will be provided, and prizes will be awarded to the top three champions. Prove you’ve got what it takes to be the ultimate Smash Bros champion!

Calling all chess enthusiasts! Every other Saturday, the Downey City Library will host the Adult Chess Club, led by local chess enthusiast Salman Mogaddedi! Downey Chess Club
New dates and time in the New Year for Chess Club for Kids! Downey Chess Club instructors will be teaching chess in the Cormack Room, Mondays 6:15-7:30pm once a month. In addition to being a fun game, chess teaches students to become leaders by improving concentration, good sportsmanship, critical & abstract thinking, problem solving, planning, and analysis.
No registration required but come early because seats are limited
Ages: 4-12

Sign, Say & Play
Your little one has a lot to say! Help them learn to communicate through sign language. Together learn signs and songs through activities and play. Caregivers will receive tips about language and cognitive development at each class.
This is a multi-week program, meeting once per week Mondays, Jan 6th - Feb 24th at 10am (excluding Jan 20th & Feb 17th).
