We offer free Wi-Fi throughout our library. No library card number or PIN is required to access our network.

With your library card number and PIN you can print from anywhere in our building. That means you can print from our laptops and desktops, as well as your own computers and mobile devices. Printing costs start at 10 cents a page. Find out more on our Service Page.

You can get a library card in-person with a valid ID and proof of address. See our Library Card page for more info or ask one of our staff members at the Info desk

Yes, we do. It varies from room to room and the time of day. In simplest terms, we expect all our guests to be respectful and courteous to each other. See our Noise Policy for more info.

You can get an e-card online, which allows you access to our databases, eBooks, audiobooks and digital periodicals. However, if you need to check out books or other physical materials from our library, you will need to come in to our library to get a physical library card.

Yes we can. You can make an appointment with one of our librarians who will be able to walk you through the whole process. Make the appointment in-person or by calling us at 562-904-7360

We have volunteer adult literacy tutors who work with students, individually and on a volunteer basis.
For children and college students we offer access to Tutor.com which connects students to free, live, online tutors who work one-on-one with students. Learn more about Tutor.com on our Databases Page.

We allow drinks in the library, but they must be in a well-sealed container. Food, on the other hand, is not allowed.

Downey City Library hosts a number of events and programs throughout the year, from workshops to author talks to discussion panels, in addition to our yearly Beyond The Book Festival.
