Anime Afternoons
Are you a fan of anime? Love watching simulcasts each week? Anime Afternoons is for you! Watch old and new shows and movies and hang out with friends in the Cormack Room every Wednesday of each month at 3:00pm.
Help us choose what to watch next! The Winter 2025 season is upon us, and we need your help choosing what shows we should watch next season. Take the form below, vote the shows you’d like to watch, and we’ll air the top 2 starting January 8th
Comics Plus 30 Volumes Challenge
Explore the incredible world of comics, manga, and graphic novels with our new reading challenge! Through Comics Plus, you have access to over 20,000 digital titles—perfect for every kind of reader. Sign in to ComicsPlus with your library card and aim to read 30 volumes an/or titles by January 5th. Complete the challenge to be entered in a raffle for one of four Boox Onyx eReaders! Whether you’re into superheroes, fantasy, slice-of-life, or classic shounen, there’s something waiting for you. Let the adventure begin, one volume at a time!

Super Smash Bros Winter Tournament
Calling all gamers! Join us for an action-packed Super Smash Bros Winter Tournament. Test your skills and aim for victory! Spaces are limited, so arrive early to secure your spot in the battle. Spectators are welcome to cheer on their favorite players, and snacks will be provided. Prizes will be awarded to the top three champions. Don’t miss your chance to become a Smash Bros legend!
When: January 18th
Where: The Cormack Room

Theater Thursdays
Do you love watching movies and sharing your opinions? Then Theater Thursdays is waiting for you! Watch classics, discover new movies, and hang out with friends in the Cormack Room the last Thursday of each month for the Teen showing at 3:30pm.

Volunteer
Receive community service hours, gain valuable work experience, connect with mentors, learn and develop new hard and soft skills, and much more! Volunteering at the Downey City Library means contributing to your community and helping make your library the best it can be.
If you’re interested, fill out the form and the library will contact you as soon as there’s availability. You must be in High School and be interviewed in order to volunteer at the library.
Host Your Own Club
Whether it’s discussing comics, arguing anime, trading K-pop cards, playing video games, sharing the latest memes, or running Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, the Downey City Library is open for all community members who want an open and safe space to start a club.
